I am a Postdoctoral Researcher in the School of Social Sciences and Government at the Tecnológico de Monterrey.
I hold a PhD in Applied Statistics and Empirical Methods from the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, completed in 2022 with the summa cum laude distinction. My PhD dissertation focused on developing boosting structured additive regression models to address critical issues in development economics.
Before pursuing my doctoral studies, I earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila and a master’s degree in Applied Statistics from the Tecnológico de Monterrey.
Currently, I also contribute as a data analyst and researcher to the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) of the Norwegian Refugee Council, where I work on quantifying the socio-economic impacts of forced displacement across more than 200 countries and territories worldwide.
A glimpse of my research
My research integrates statistical methods, machine learning algorithms, and data science techniques to better understand how individuals, families, and communities experience, adapt to, and cope with phenomena such as armed conflict, violence, climate change, poverty, and forced displacement.
Another line of my research focuses on enhancing knowledge of disease outbreaks by improving the availability and quality of data and promoting analyses to identify geospatial trends and patterns worldwide.
Recently, I have applied boosting structured additive regression models to predict and describe whether, how, where, and when development and humanitarian crises may occur in the future. Feel free to send me a message if you are interested in this line of work.

Brief summary of my professional experience
I have contributed to research projects analyzing data related to humanitarian crises, development, and vulnerable populations, working with several international organizations, including the Norwegian Refugee Council, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research, the International Organization for Migration, and UN Women.
My work has covered a wide range of topics and geographical contexts, including the Boko Haram insurgency in the Lake Chad Basin (Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, and Niger); ISIS in Iraq; armed guerrilla groups in Colombia; urban violence in Latin America; conflict-induced displacement in Sudan; disaster-induced displacement in Bangladesh, Kenya, Nigeria, and Guatemala; geospatial analysis of femicides in Mexico; and migration governance in Central America and the Caribbean.
